WHAT IS GUAR?
Guar i.e. Cyamposis Tetragomolobus is a plant belonging to the vast family of Leguminsoal. It is an agricultural crop
grown during monsoon - normally between July to September. It can be grown in the areas which have small rainfall of about
400 to 900 mm in two or three spells, with an interval of about a month or so because it does not require much water and fertilizer
to grow like other crops.
The plant is thin but strong and reaches the height of 1 meter at full growth. The main stem and its branches bear pods
which may contain up to 10 seeds, Seeds have a diameter of around 8 mm. Plant is sensitive to frost, viral, fungal and bacterial
diseases. Pods when ripped are harvested and dried under the sun; Seeds are removed from the beans when they are fully dried.
India is the largest producer and exporter of Guar Gum. Important Guar growing states in India are: - Rajasthan, Gujrat,
Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Guar is grown not only for food, fodder and vegetable purposes but also
as one of the important raw materials of great industrial importance. The Guar seed consists of three parts the germ, the
endosperm and the husk. It is the endosperm that the guar gum is derived.

Detailed Usage of GUAR DERIVATIVES: -
Guar Gum is a cold-water soluble polysaccharide and it has broad uses in food and industrial industries and Textile Printing.
These uses depend upon the properties provided by very large molecules in various states of hydration, mostly in solutions.
Guar Gum hydrates very easily to produce aqueous solutions possessing a high viscosity at a very low gum concentration. These
solutions are good emulsifiers and stabilizers because they prevent oil droplets from coalescing. They may also have the property
of interfacial binding and thereby act as true emulsifiers. Guar Gum is also used as a suspension stabilizer as it allows
only slow settling because of its thickening power.

OIL, GAS & WELL DRILLING: -
With an increasing cost of discovering new oil, gas and water wells there have been numerous applications developed to
increase oil recovery in existing wells using well stimulation. Guar Gum is used in the fracturing treatment of oil, gas and
water wells to enhance recovers' and stimulate production.
MINING: -
Guar Gum is often used in froth flotation of Potash as an auxiliary reagent, depressing the gangue minerals, which might
he clay, talc or shale. It is used as flocculant or settling agent to concentrate ores and tailings in the mining industry.
COSMETICS & PHARMACEUT1CALS: - -
Guar Gum is used to thicken various cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. It is also used to bind and to disintegrate compressed
tablets and pellets. It is used to thicken the syrups. It is also used as a mild laxative.
EXPLOSIVES: -
Guar gum is used in explosives industry as a waterproofing agent. Its ability to hydrate in saturated solutions of ammonium
nitrate causes it to be widely used in this industry.
SIZING INDUSTRY: -
Guar Gum is also used for sizing purposes, as it is the cold-water soluble polymer. It. is highly suitable on all kind
of fabrics either in hot or cold process.
BLANKET MILLING & FIMSHING; -
Guar Gum is used for Milling & Finishing of Blankets. Guar Gum mixed with Destrine gives a very good glaze, increases
weight and finish of Blankets.
CARPET INDUSTRIES: -
Guar Gum is used in Carpet Industries along with latex to give the optimum strength to the carpel as well as it allows
the lower jute layer to fix with the carpet with the help of latex.
INSECTISIDES & PESTISIDES: -
Guar Gum is used in Insecticides & Pesticides. It is also used for manufacturing Mosquito Coils & Mats as a binding
agent for Coils & Mats.
DHOOP AGGARBATI & MATCHSTICKS: -
Guar Gum is used is Dhoop, Agarbati and Matchsticks as a binding agent.
PAINT INDUSTRIES; -
Guar Gum is used in Paint Industries for manufacturing Dry Distemper, Oil Bound Distemper and Emulsion Paints as a Homogenizing,
Thickening and Stabilizing Agent.
DETERGENT & SOAP INDUSTRIES; -
Guar Gum is used in Detergent & Soap Industries as an advanced and reliable substitute of C.M.C. as a Homogenizing,
Thickening, Stabilizing and Suspending agent.
FOOD INDUSTRIES: -
The largest consumer market in the world for Guar Gum is the food industry. Guar Gum is used as a thickener in sauces,
ketchup, salad dressing, frozen foods, cheese, icings, pie filling, noodles and instant noodles, beverages, fruit juices,
syrups. Guar gum is used as a stabilizer in Ice Creams, Kattha and Bakeries. In Bread Factories it is used as bread improver.
PAPER INDUSTRIES: -
Guar Gum is used in the paper industry for improved sheet formation, increased bursting strength, increased folding strength
and increased finish and glaze on witting as well as craft papers. It also reduces the consumption of rosin fullers. The major
use of Guar Gum in Papermaking is the wet end of the process. The gum is added to the pulp suspension just before the sheet
is formed on a fourdrinier machine or a cylinder machine. It helps in the sheet formulation with a more regular distribution
of pulp fibres and also decreases the pulp hydration time.
TEXTILE & BLANKET PRINTING: -
Guar Gum Based Textile Printing Gums are mostly used for Printing of natural and synthetic fibres on flat beds, rotary
as well as hand screen-printing with all kinds of Dyestuffs. Guar Gum Based Textile Printing Gums are very soluble in water
and have good penetration property thus it results in very excellent printing results. After printing during washing process
Guar Gum Based Textile Printing Gums disappears very easily. Colour of the powder (Gum), Ph and properties are manufactured
to give the optimum results in Dyestuffs.
